MegBIO.
Meg Corson, although heavily grounded in jazz, has a singing and performance background that spans most genres of music. Meg started her apprenticeship ‘treading the boards’ in musicals, plays, cabaret and theatre restaurant, until starting her jazz studies at university. Apart from a couple of ‘normal’ jobs (one working for a forklift & bobcat company!) she has worked continuously as a performing artist. She is a graduate of the Australian National University School of Music in Jazz Studies.
Throughout her career Meg has played leading roles in musicals, lead jazz bands, fronted big bands and orchestras for major public events and designed and produced her own concerts. She has supported, recorded and performed with such artists as James Morrison, Don Burrows, Abdullah Ibrahim, Jose Feliciano, Vince Jones, Marina Prior, Groove Terminator, Antonio Gambale, Delta Goodrum and Guy Sebastian. Some career highlights include singing for Geoffrey Rush’s 60th , performing at Carols by Candlelight and being one of the founding members of the internationally renowned a cappella group ‘The Idea of North’. Her nine years with the group, touring extensively both nationally and internationally, provided a wealth of experience including the invaluable mentoring by James Morrison, the release of two CD’s to rave reviews with #1 Chart status and two ‘MO’ award nominations. Other highlights include; invitations to perform in New York City at the International Assoc of Jazz Educators conference and on the main stage at the San Jose Jazz Festival (USA), as well as performing at the MCG for the AFL Grand Final.
Currently she enjoys living in country Victoria with her husband and 2 beautiful boys, being a member of the World Vision ambassadors Melbourne Gospel Choir and most recently creating and producing through concerts, POZIBLE crowdfund and plenty of community support; the release of her debut solo Album ‘Wonder Woman’!
Her repertoire is undoubtedly Jazz but her diverse experience allows her to let the mood guide where her songs go! The gift of a beautiful voice is a great thing, but when complimented with the ability to communicate the heart and soul of a song you have a musical experience that is set apart from the rest. Let yourself be seduced by the velvety smooth voice and soulful styling’s of Meg Corson.
